The VCDS SFD function is currently in its Beta phase. It serves to collect feedback to solve problems and improve the function before the full release.

    Fixed annual costs

    No tokens per SFD unlock. No need to repurchase credits. With VCDS, SFD unlocking is provided via a fixed annual subscription. An almost unlimited number of SFD unlocks within the subscription period (maximum of 250 SFD unlocks per day).

     

    Extremely affordable subscription price

    The two pricing tiers are sensibly structured and, compared to other market competitors, exceptionally cost-effective. The price of the SFD subscription depends solely on the VIN version. Whether an Enthusiast or Professional interface is used, the number of SFD unlocks under both subscription models is, in normal workshop use, effectively unlimited.

     

    Full diagnostics for VAG

    No cloud dependency for standard diagnostics. VCDS remains a classic, powerful PC-based diagnostic system with offline diagnostic capability – as long as the control units are unlocked.

    SFD (Schutz der Fahrzeug-Diagnose= protection of vehicle diagnostics) was introduced in the year 2019 with the VW Golf 8 in two stages:

    The first stage can be equated to the “Login” and “Coding II” functions. After successfully unlocking the protected control module, advanced functions like coding or adaptation can be performed. 

    The second stage builds on the first stage and expands it to additionally protect control modules from manipulation. It is mandated by the EU regulations UNECE R 155 and UNECE R 156 and is mandatory for all vehicle models produced since 2024. Some vehicle models had this protection introduced in 2023.

    After successfully unlocking the SFD, only some advanced functions that are permitted by the vehicle manufacturer can be performed. This includes service-related functions like replacing brakes, service resets or particle filter regeneration. Retrofitting and other changes not intended by the vehicle manufacturer will continue to be blocked by the SFD2 protection, even when successfully unlocked.
    The SFD subscription makes unlocking SFD protected control modules in VAG group vehicles possible, directly via VCDS. With an active subscription SFDs are unlocked automatically in the background - no external tokens required.

    You can decide for yourself if you require the subscription or if you prefer using our service to unlock SFDs.
    • SFD affects all newer VAG models (incl. facelift) starting from Golf 8 (2019)
    • SFD2 (UNECE) affects all VAG vehicles starting model year 2024

    If you’re already using VCDS, you can upload an Auto-Scan in our online SFD-Checker, it shows which control modules are protected.
    The SFD subscription is supported by the following original VCDS interfaces: 
    • 100 € if in possession of a “Professional” (unlimited) license 
    • 50 € if in possession of an “Enthusiast” (3 VIN or 10 VIN limited) license
    Once paid, the SFD unlock function is active for one year (12 months). Any SFD unlocks made during this period are free in the sense that no additional costs are incurred for each. 
    If all of the following pre-requisites are met you will receive the SFD subscription free for one year: 
    • Professional license VCDS HEX-V2 or HEX-NET interface 
    • Purchased on or after January 1st, 2023
    No, the SFD subscription does not require tokens. The protection is automatically deactivated in the background via an online connection to the VW server.
    If you don’t require the subscription but still need a token you can use the PCI Diagnosetechnik SFD service. It gives you access to the vehicle diagnostics without the subscription.

    No. Customers who purchased their VCDS interface on or after January 1st, 2023 were and still are subject to increased prices. As compensation they will receive a free one-year subscription. 

    In your case, you can purchase the SFD subscription: 
    • 100 € if in possession of a “Professional” (unlimited) license 
    • 50 € if in possession of an “Enthusiast” (3 VIN or 10 VIN limited) license 
     
    No. If the “Enthusiast” license suits your purposes, you can simply use the SFD subscription for “Enthusiast” licenses which is more affordable than an upgrade to a “Professional” license. 
    Yes! Both the black and newer blue HEX-NET interfaces support the SFD function.
    Yes! Control modules protected by SFD2 can also be unlocked. Please note however that currently, only service relevant functions are possible in SFD2 vehicles (it heavily depends on the vehicle, more might be possible in some).
